These "big" fears, related to death, isolation, loneliness and loss, steer us through our lives both consciously and unconsciously. Depending on how we deal with them, they result in our attachment styles and especially in how well we find our way in the world. Our first relationship is with our parents or first attachment figures: If, for example, we did not always feel the closeness and trust we needed as a child, we may later have difficulty bonding or even communicating our needs. The beauty of attachment styles: They are not burned into our personality for all eternity, but every relationship experience and our handling of it can contribute to changing our attachment style.
