Suddenly there was radio silence. Everything was going so well. Hanno had met Marco on Tinder two weeks ago. They had arranged to meet, the first date went great. But after that, Marco simply stopped answering, and he didn't respond to phone calls either. Hanno was worried at first, then he got angry: He was ghosted.

## What is ghosting?

Ghosting means that a person suddenly disappears from life by cutting off all contact. However, he or she does not log off, but no longer responds to any contact attempts. He or she simply becomes a ghost.

People who ghost other people usually do so out of shame or fear. Fear of rejecting the other person and thus causing a confrontation. They are ashamed of hurting the other and withdraw from the relationship completely. By the way, this happens not only in dating and love relationships, but also in business relationships, after job interviews or even among friends.

For the ghosts, this is the supposedly easiest solution. They can simply push away and repress problematic feelings and relationships. But the victims of ghosting often suffer. They wonder if they have done something wrong, if something might have happened to the other person, and may even doubt their knowledge of human nature. And this is despite the fact that in most cases they don't have to. Because ghosting says much more about the people who do it than about the victims. Therefore, it is advisable to try to doubt yourself less and not to blame yourself.

## Ghosting: How to deal with it

If you feel like Hanno and you are also a victim of ghosting, we have put together some tips that you can use to get through this difficult time.

- **Accept the pain**. Being ghosted hurts. And it's important to let those feelings in. Because if you keep the pain bottled up, the consequences of being ghosted will only get worse.
- **Acknowledge your feelings and talk about them**. Reach out to a friend, or consider getting coaching. Either way, it's important to share your sadness, anger, or frustration with someone.
- **Give yourself a treat**. Practice self-love and do what's good for you. Meditate, do some yoga, do some sports, listen to good music or go to the movies again - best with good friends! In such a phase it is very important to take care of your mental and physical health.
- **Forgive your ghost**. Even if the first justified reactions are anger and sadness, it will help you to eventually forgive the person who **ghosted** you. Your resentment will not get you anywhere, but will only make things worse over time. Maybe the person who ghosted you actually thinks **ghosting** is the best option. He or she probably has some other issues to deal with.
- **Accept that it's over**. When the time comes, try to let go of the person. Try not to hold on to your pain for too long and move on with your life.

If you take these tips to heart, you will find it easier to deal with ghosting. Maybe one last tip. Just because it's happened to you before doesn't mean it has to happen to you again and again. Maybe it will be better the next time.
